Renowned PokerStars roll in to Newcastle
Newcastle's premier casino
is set to play host to a major poker event as it sweeps into the city for the
North East leg of the UK and Ireland wide tournament.
Aspers Casino at The Gate has been selected as the North East venue for the PokerStars UK & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT), which takes place for five consecutive days from the 16th June. The big name event, which has a £100,000 guaranteed prize pool, has already attracted astounding interest from poker players across the UK and Ireland resulting in an anticipated increase in the prize pool due to the large numbers of players registering.
Aspers Casino at The Gate will be the fifth stop out of the nine top UK and Ireland venues on the UKIPT that have been selected to stage the event due to the cultural offering of their surrounding area and location, and already expectations are high following the attendance of over 1,000 players at the Nottingham leg of the tournament.
Alan Barnes, Head of Gaming at Aspers at The Gate said: "The PokerStars UK and Ireland Poker Tour is a superbly well attended event and it drums up a lot of excitement and interest from many of the big names and faces within the poker world.
"We are extremely excited to have been selected as one of the tour's destination casinos, and are very much looking forward to playing host to the poker fans and players during the five days in June.

"Already the response to the tournament has been phenomenal with over 1,000 people turning up to the leg in Nottingham, so we're hoping that players in the North East will turn up in their droves to welcome the UKIPT to the area.
"Aspers at The Gate is a vibrant and exciting place to be. We hope that all tournament players will enjoy their time in Newcastle and we believe that the competition will be as stimulating as the previous legs, if not more."
Season 2 of the PokerStars UK & Ireland Poker Tour kicked off on December 2nd in Galway, Ireland, and is continuing to travel through individual cities that have been specifically chosen for their cultural interest and location as one of the poker hotspots in the UK and Ireland. The Grand Final will take place in the autumn in London.
