Aspers Brings Folies Bergère to Tyneside
Aspers at The Gate

Following the huge success of its weekly Burlesque Night, Aspers at the Gate will be holding a Folies Bergère-themed evening on Saturday 24th October.

Inspired by the legendary Parisian music hall, the event will feature the Newcastle-based Etrois dance group, led by professional dancer Ellouise Hempstead, who runs the weekly Burlesque classes at Aspers. In addition to the action-packed cabaret performance, there will be a short display from her pupils, who have been practicing for their big day all year.

"What started out as an interesting experiment has rapidly become one of our most popular theme nights, so we're very excited about the big show on Saturday," said Tracy Kenny, Campaigns Manager at Aspers at The Gate. "Ellouise has really inspired our ladies to learn all about Burlesque dancing and it's grown by word of mouth as existing members have brought their friends along."

The Folies Bergère night will be held in Aspers' Lady O's venue, next to the casino's Stowell Street entrance, from 9pm. Ellouise and her colleagues in the Etrois troupe will stage a traditional evening of dance and entertainment in the mould of the traditional cabaret, bringing a touch of exotic nightlife to Newcastle city centre.

"This is the climax of a lot of hard work for the members of our Burlesque Night class and it's great that they will be participating in the show," says Ellouise. "The dark red tones in Lady O's make it the perfect venue for a Folies Bergère-style event and I'm very excited about the whole evening. Let's hope it's the first of many."
